Ellesmere Town Mayor, Cllr Anne Wignall, presented prizes to talented amateur photographers at the 2024 Annual Town Meeting at Ellesmere Town Hall on Wednesday 1st May.

The Mayor’s photography competition had been launched earlier in the year with the aim of finding photographs that best captured the spirit of the beautiful market town.

Ian Roberts won the adult category with a photo of a goose and her cheeky goslings by the Mere; second prize went to John Cooling with a black-and-white photograph of customers at Vermeulens bakery and delicatessen; whilst third prize went to Stephen Roberts for a great photo of the canal.

Prizes had already been presented to pupils in assemblies at Ellesmere Primary School and Lakelands Academy. Local amateur photographer, Cllr Liz Woodbridge, one of the judges, accompanied Cllr Wignall to the schools where she shared her best tips for taking great photos. Winners at the primary school were Duke Humphrey-Winn, Isla Clewes and Jessica Hudson.

Cllr Wignall presented prizes to Hayden Martin, Monty Durrell and Aaron Bebbington at Lakelands Academy.

She said: “We were delighted to see so many people submitting brilliant photos. The winning three photographs in each category will become part of a permanent exhibition at the Town Hall and we intend to use them in future publicity for the town. Many congratulations to all the winners!.”
