MAYOR’S CHARITY FUND
The Mayor’s Charity Fund was set up to assist many of the smaller charitable and voluntary groups in Ellesmere that do not have a national profile and can find fundraising more challenging.
The Mayor of Ellesmere, Cllr Pete Jones, has chosen two charities to support during his Mayoral term – Ellesmere Cricket Club and Ellesmere Carnival Committee. Ellesmere Cricket Club makes a significant contribution to Ellesmere’s community and the Carnival Committee work tirelessly all year to pull together the annual Carnival that we all know and love.
The Mayor will be very pleased and honoured to support the both Ellesmere’s Cricket Club and Ellesmere’s Carnival fundraising efforts wherever and whenever possible, whether through attending and promoting events, supporting appeal activities, or helping to raise awareness of the excellent work the organisations continue to do within the community.
Each year the Mayor will distribute the funds raised to his or her chosen charities.
ELLESMERE CRICKET CLUB
Ellesmere’s Cricket Club continues to grow with increasing members across the men’s, women’s and junior sections which reflects the dedication of the players, coaches and of the many volunteers who give their time to the club so generously.
Beyond the sporting success lies the significant contribution that the club makes to the wider Ellesmere community from providing opportunities for people of all ages to take part in sport, to hosting events that bring residents together and support local causes, through to Line Dancing and Dog Shows. Ellesmere Cricket Club truly plays an important role in the life of the town.
Mayor Pete Jones is keen for Ellesmere Cricket Club to be one of the main charitable beneficiaries during his mayoral year.
ELLESMERE CARNIVAL COMMITTEE
Ellesmere Carnival is a vibrant annual celebration bringing the community together for a day of fun, music, and tradition. The carnival is one of Elsmere’s most cherished events, bringing people together, celebrating local spirit, and raising funds for good causes within the community.
Featuring a lively parade through the town, entertainment for all ages, local food vendors, and exciting attractions, the carnival showcases the heart of Ellesmere. With floats, live performances, and a welcoming atmosphere, it’s a highlight of the local calendar, celebrating the spirit and heritage of this charming Shropshire town. The Mayor has long admired the dedication, creativity and sheer hard work shown by the Committee and its volunteers in delivering such a successful and inclusive event.
The Carnival Committee also hosts additional events throughout the year, including the great Easter Egg hunt! Volunteers from the committee also help with marshaling events such as the triathlons that take place in Ellesmere…and they’re always looking for volunteers!
Mayor Pete Jones is keen for Ellesmere Carnival to be one of the main charitable beneficiaries during his mayoral year.
