Community Resource have an exciting programme of health events coming up over the next few months.

As well as Arthritis Awareness, Continence Awareness and Healthy Eating we are excited to be relaunching our Menopause Awareness event.  See below for full details of each event and future dates/venues. All events are FREE to attend and details on how to book your place are at the bottom of this article.

Arthritis Awareness provides an overview of osteoarthritis with a focus on self-management and pain relief techniques including specific exercises for arthritis, weight management, complementary therapies, aids and gadgets, national/local support organisations, together with a pre-recorded Q&A session with Dr Anne O’Brien, Senior Lecturer at Keele University. The session also includes a gentle exercise taster.

Continence Awareness is for anyone interested in finding out more about this common condition, affecting around 40% of the UK population. We will be looking at different types, symptoms and causes of urinary and bowel incontinence, treatment options including lifestyle adjustments, medications and surgery, and how to maintain a healthy bladder and bowel. We also have a pre-recorded Q&A session with the Shropshire NHS Continence Advisory Service, and an interactive session on pelvic floor exercises.

Healthy Eating:  This event provides an opportunity to find out how to improve your nutrition and health. This free, 2 ½ hour session includes a presentation from students from Worcester University’s Dietetics degree course overseen by Dr Stacey Jones, Principal Lecturer. They will explain portion size, main food groups and a general guide to eating well. Our talk also includes information on ultra processed foods, salts and sugars as well as what to do if you get a prediabetes diagnosis – covering signs and symptoms. Physical activity is essential to wellbeing. The talk will be followed by a gentle exercise taster and information on local exercise opportunities.

Menopause Awareness looks at peri-menopause, menopause and how to look after yourself through this period of your or a loved one’s life? This event includes thought provoking information on the topic of perimenopause and menopause including understanding the wide range of symptoms (not just hot flushes!), risks and benefits of hormone replacement therapy (HRT), lifestyle changes to improve your symptoms, a pre-recorded Q&A session with GP Dr Deborah Shepherd, a free gentle 30-minute yoga/pilates taster session, and information on resources which provide support for people experiencing the menopause.
