Grant Awards

Ellesmere Town Council was pleased to present grants at their recent meeting to the representatives of local organisations who had applied for funding.

The Ellesmere Thursday Club received support for the activities that are organised for older people each week. Members enjoy morning coffee, a two-course lunch and afternoon tea, along with craft sessions, games, speakers and other entertainment. Places are available for new members at this friendly club – further information is available from Elaine Stockdale on 01691 777207.

Ellesmere Bowling Club received funding to further develop the facilities at the club which stands on the site of the old Ellesmere Castle, a place of special historical interest. Members are keen to attract new people to join the club (its members are aged 9-90) and to support its fundraising events. A Quiz Night will be held at the Ellesmere Hotel on Saturday, 7th October, 7 for 7.30pm, teams of 4, £2.50 per person: contact ellesmerebowlingclub.co.uk for further information.

Representatives from Ellesmere Town Scouts updated councillors on the progress of the new Scout Hut which will be completed during the autumn. Money awarded by the Town Council will be spent on providing toilets in the new building – essential, particularly now that the number of scouts has grown and there is a waiting list! Councillors said they were looking forward to seeing a new community building added to the town’s facilities.

Ellesmere Town Mayor, Cllr Anne Wignall, said: “We are delighted to be able to support so many hard-working groups in the town that help to make Ellesmere such a wonderful place to live.”
