New play and leisure equipment installed at Beech Grove Recreation Area, Ellesmere

Exciting new play equipment and a fitness zone area have been installed at Beech Grove Recreation Area in Ellesmere.

The new equipment was chosen by Ellesmere Town Council following a public consultation on a number of potential designs. It includes a large multi-play climbing frame and slide, two conventional swings and a basket swing, and a dish roundabout.  For older children and adults, two pieces of multi-purpose fitness equipment have been provided.

The £20,000 cost of the new equipment has been funded by Section 106 money from the town’s existing Wharf development. Section 106 contributions can be sought from developers towards the cost of providing community and social infrastructure.

The consultation on the improvements to the play area was led by the Town Council and Sue Thomas, Community Enablement Officer with Shropshire Council.  Local children and residents were asked to choose their favourite from a selection of designs that had been submitted by play and leisure companies. Well over a hundred responses were received.
